Starting childcare is a big transition for the whole family. Even when you have chosen a provider you trust, the first weeks can bring tears at drop-off, disrupted naps, and hard questions in the car on the way home. This is normal, and it passes.
The most important thing you can do in those first weeks is to keep drop-offs short, warm, and predictable. A long goodbye is harder for your child than a confident one. Say the same phrase every morning. Give the same hug. Then trust your provider to take it from there.
Expect regressions at home. A child who was sleeping through the night may wake up again. A child who was independent at meals may want to be fed. This is your child telling you they are working hard all day and need extra closeness with you in the evening.
Keep communication open with your provider. Share what worked at home, what did not, and what your child loves. The best care happens when the adults on both sides of the door feel like a team. After a few weeks, most children not only settle in, they run in.
